Men's Basketball

Head Coach Stephen Garnett
Stephen Garnett entered his first year as Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach for the Colorado Northwestern Community College Spartans this year. Coach Garnett joins us from Flagstaff, Arizona where he served as Assistant Head Coach for the Sinagua High School Mustangs.  In his one year at Sinagua High School, the Mustangs went 15-17, finishing second in the Grand Canyon Region as long as runner-up in the GCR championship game and the Mustangs advanced to the second round of the state playoffs, which is the farthest they’ve advanced since 1998.  Coach Garnett also was a personal trainer in the Flagstaff area, working with high school students in the off-season on strength training, as well as basketball development skills.  Prior to his coaching at Sinagua High School, Coach Garnett received a full ride scholarship to Northern Arizona University from 2001-2005 and was a three year starter for the Lumberjacks.  At his stint at NAU, the Lumberjacks played a number of powerhouse schools including Pitt, Oregon, Arizona (ranked #1 at that time), Texas Tech, Oral Roberts, with two wins against UCLA and UNLV, respectively.  Coach Garnett’s main duties with the Spartans include recruiting, scouting, on-floor coaching, strength training, academic advising and game preparation.

Assistant Coach Adrian Hayes
Adrian Hayes entered his first season as Assistant Men’s and Women’s basketball coach at Colorado Northwestern Community College.   Adrian Hayes joined the program from Los Angeles, CA where he worked for the past 2 years as a personal trainer.  Adrian is certified member of the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFFA) as a Personal Trainer.  Prior to that Adrian coached Austin Outlaws an AAU boys basketball team in Austin, Texas where he is originally from.  As a former professional basketball player, Adrian has an extensive knowledge of the game.  He has played in several summer pro leagues In the Los Angeles area and briefly in Ensenada, Mexico for the MEXICAN LIGA NACIONAL DE BASQUETBOL( LNBP).   Adrian playing career was cut short due to a major knee injury in 2006.  Since then Adrian has worked various basketball camps alongside some of the country's best coaches and had an opportunity to coach players of all ages and skill levels.  He has also worked very closely with A.C. Green while assisting him in coaching and conducting basketball drills for players during his development camp.  Adrian Hayes was a starter for the Northern Arizona University Lumberjacks men's basketball team where he played and received his Bachelor Science degree in Sociology in 2004.  At Northern Arizona University Hayes played alongside then teammate now Head Men's and Women's coach Steven Garnett.  As a Lumberjack Adrian has played against some of the country's best teams and programs.  As the new Assistant for Men's and Women's basketball at CNCC Adrian Hayes and Steven Garnett hope to team up again and put together winning programs.
