Lady Spartans Basketball

October 1, 2009

The lady Spartans had their first official practice at midnight last night. It was the first look at the lady Spartans as they begin the 2009-2010 campaign. About 200 fans came to watch the lady Spartans have a intra-squad scrimmage while they enjoy free pizza and the first 40 fans were able to take home a CNCC basketball t-shirt.  Head Coach Antowin Edwards and Assistant Coach Kenneth Michaud are very exciting about the season. “It's fun talking about the start of basketball season.  Tonight was a good opportunity to see a little bit of what they can do”- Assistant Coach Kenneth Michaud. The lady Spartans will take a team bonding trip horseback riding this Saturday. Please check the website for pictures. The next time you can see the lady Spartans in action is Saturday, October 17 at 3 PM against a team from Grand Junction.

Yateria “Tee Tee” Wilson - 5’9 SG/SF (Alief Elsik High) Houston, TX.  Tee-Tee is a super athletic guard, who can score the ball in multiple ways.  She was having a tremendous season before suffering a season ending ankle injury.  Before her injury she was averaging 15ppg and 5rpg.  She has fully recovered from her injury and we anticipate her being a valuable component of our offensive and defensive schemes.

Recruiting Overview:

The 2009-2010 recruiting class is potentially the best recruiting class in the past five years.   I had two goals in mind when I started recruiting and rebuilding the program.  The first goals was to get faster, stronger and more skilled.   The second goal was to surround my talented sophomores with freshmen from winning programs.  Thus far, I believe that I have accomplished both of my goals

2009-2010 Recruits:

Lacy Rider - 5'10 PF (Spring Creek High) Spring Creek, NV.   Lacy comes to us from one of the most dominating 3A programs in the state of Nevada over the past five years.  Last season she led Spring Creek in scoring and rebounding on their way to a 28-1 record and another state 3A title.   Lacy brings to CNCC her 13ppg; 8rpg average and her winning attitude to another Spartans team.   Haven been a member of three state titles in four years, Lacy understands what it takes to win at a high level.

Tamekia Hunt - 5'10 G/F (Montbello High) Denver, CO.  One of the top scorers in the Denver Public School Conference over the last two seasons.  Tamekia is a prolific offensive weapon with the ability to score it from deep.  Tamekia led her team in scoring and in rebounding which finished 10-15 overall.  Tamekia will be bringing her 15ppg and 8rpg average to CNCC this year.  Tamekia will also add size and toughness to the shooting guard and wing positions on offense and defense this season.

Keosha Blue - 5'10 G/F (George Washington High) Denver, CO.   A proven scorer with the ability to stretch the defense from behind the arc.  Keosha also brings added depth and defensive speed on the wing and in the post.  Last year, Keosha helped George Washington High School to a 17-7 record; where she averaged 13ppg; 6rpg and 4apg

Tiana Wilder - 5'6 WG (George Washington High) Denver, CO.   A defensive work horse that will give added depth to the point guard and wing positions.  Tiana’s calling card last year for George Washington High School was being a thief on defense where she led the team in steals with 8 a game.  Tiana averaged 6ppg; 4rpg; and 5apg which was very instrumental in 17-7 record of George Washington High School.

Ariel Sanchez - 5'7 SG (Moffat County) Craig, CO.  A deadly shooter from the perimeter with has outstanding range.   Ariel helped guide Moffat County to a 16-10 record last season; averaging just over 8ppg and 4rpg.  Ariel is a very heady player and she brings a level mental toughness that team will most definitely need with our tough non-conference and conference schedules.

Myriah Hadnot - 5'8 G/F (LBJ High) Austin, TX.   A do it all type of player that can play multiple positions on the floor.   Myriah comes to CNCC from one of the most winningest programs in the state of Texas.  “Myriah was the glue to our program.” Coach Brown, Austin L.B.J. Head Girls Basketball Coach   Myriah is a fierce competitor and a outstanding defender, who doesn't understand losing.  Myriah average 8pg; 6rpg and helped guide Austin L.B.J. to a 28-8 record and a 3rd place finish in the state.

Teena Anderson - 5'6 PG (George Washington High) Denver, CO.   An ultra-quick point guard, who can truly see the floor on offense and a blood hound on defense.  She was the floor general for George Washington High School two seasons ago.   Teena brings to the team a wealth of knowledge and leadership, that will be greatly needed and appreciated this season.

Charlotte Epperson - 5'10 G/F (Lamar C.C./Montbello High) Denver, CO.   Charlotte will be the lone sophomore transfer from Lamar Community College that will bring added athleticism and defensive speed at the wing and post positions.

We are really close to finalizing our recruiting class for 2009-2010 stay tuned and keep watching for recruiting updates.
