Colorado Northwestern Community College has an Open Door Admissions Policy which means that anyone beyond high school age with a desire to learn will be admitted.

Exceptions to the Open Door Policy are the Dental Hygiene, Nursing, Aviation Technology and Aviation Maintenance Technology programs which have specific admissions policies and requirements.

Colorado Northwestern Community College is on a rolling admissions plan which means anyone can apply anytime up until the first day of classes each semester. There is no specific application deadline.

Applications must be sent with high school/college transcripts and (optional) ACT or SAT score.

Exceptions to the Open Door Policy

• Dental Hygiene - enrollment is limited to 27 students per year. Be sure to click on the link to check the pre-requisite requirements and application deadline date.

• Aviation Technology - must pass an Airman 2nd Class physical performed by a designated FAA physician and attend an aviation orientation.

• Aviation Maintenance Technology - enrollment is limited to 18 students each year.

• Nursing Program – enrollment is limited to 24 students per year.
  

  Potential nursing students must pass the entrance exam within three attempts to be placed on the wait list. To take this 3 hour TEAS test call Darby McDermott at 970-824-1104 or email at darby.mcdermott@cncc.edu  to set up an appointment. It will be given at the Bell Tower Building at 50 College Drive in Craig, Colorado. The cost for this test is $35.00 and must be paid in advance at the bookstore. 

Admissions as a regular student:

Students who are high school graduates, have earned a General Education Development Certificate (G.E.D.), intend to enroll under the Post Secondary Options Act or have reached the age of 18 may be granted regular admission into Colorado Northwestern Community College. This does not include automatic admission into a particular program due to enrollment limits, academic requirements or selective admissions.

Admission as a special student:

Students who do not meet the requirements for regular admission may be admitted as a special student. Special students are required to complete Colorado Northwestern Community College's assessment testing (writing, math, and reading skills) and demonstrate college-level competencies prior to enrolling. Special students are required to meet with the Director of Counseling and Career Services (Rangely) or the Campus Dean - Registrar (Craig) to plan a class schedule.

3. Register for the College Opportunity Fund
• COF is a Government stipend that pays a portion of your total in-state tuition for undergraduate students
  
  
4. Mail in final high school and/or college transcripts
• If you are currently a student, final transcripts should be requested prior to your last date of attendance.
• High School transcripts may also include Immunization records and ACT/SAT test scores
• Mail unopened envelope to:

5. Immunization records
• Proof of two MMR shots and a Meningococcal (meningitis) shot.  Most high schools have this information available and may be included in transcripts.
  
  
6. Physical exam
• Athletes: a physical must be submitted prior to participating in any activity associated with your sport. Since the physical is valid for only one year, the physical should probably be completed in the early summer months.  You will receive further information from the Athletic Director.
• Flight Students: must pass an Airman 2nd Class physical performed by a designated FAA physician and attend an aviation orientation

• Law Enforcement /SPR Academy Students: a physical must be submitted
  
  
7. Complete Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
• A paper FAFSA can be obtained from the Financial Aid Office, or
• FAFSA on the web can be accessed at www.fafsa.ed.gov
• Federal School Code for CNCC is 001359 (FAFSA step 6)
• FAFSA Tips:  If possible, complete required tax forms before completing the FAFSA; read all instructions; complete the FAFSA worksheet.
  
  
8. Apply for CNCC Scholarships
   
   
9. Complete Student Housing Contract and Application (for students planning to live on campus)
• Required for all incoming Freshmen Students
• Students continuing to live on campus for 3rd & 4th semesters receive 50% discount!
• Must include $100 housing deposit
  
  
10. Register and Attend S.T.A.R.
• Complete our Mandatory Assessment and Placement tests - Most students enrolling for the first time at Colorado Northwestern Community College and seeking a degree or certificate will be tested in the areas of reading, writing, and mathematics. Exemptions do apply.
• Determine if you qualify for Credit For Prior Learning (PDF)
• Meet with your advisor - An academic advisor will explain and help you understand your assessment scores, assist you in academic and career planning, and help you plan a course schedule.
• Register for classes - after meeting with your advisor bring your completed registration form to the Admissions Office or register online.
