With its idyllic setting in Rangely's Columbine Park and panoramic mountain views, Spartan Field is a completely unique setting for baseball games. However, the years have not been kind to Spartan Field and it was badly in need of a facelift, so it got one!
The coaches and players at Colorado Northwestern Community College are justifiably proud of their newly refurbished field. During the summer of 2001, a contingent of players and former Coach Fortunato spent untold hours working on the field. Accomplished with many hours of sweat and hard work were labor-intensive tasks like hauling and spreading over 100 yards of red clay dirt, updating the sprinkler system, tightening the outfield fences, painting and carpeting the dugouts and re-planking the grandstands.
The coaches, players, staff at the college, and members of the Rangely community extend their sincere appreciation to the following for their support, assistance, and guidance during the process of revitalizing Spartan Field:
-
City of Rangely
-
Rio Blanco County Commissioners
-
Matt Hall and Billy Estes at the Recreation Center
-
Junior Bailey and the CNCC Maintenance staff
-
Bernie Shafer and Billy Ellison at Cedar Ridges Golf Course
-
The many businesses and private persons who both donated time and money as well as purchased advertisement to be displayed at the field
Spartan Field sits in the middle of Columbine Park, about two miles east of Rangely. The views and blue skies can be spectacular and the sunsets aren't bad either!
The pungent odor of sage and wispy clouds over the distant hills, not to mention the blue skies only enhance the setting to play ball.
So far, no one has hit one onto the mountain in the background! |
