Men's Basketball - Coaching Staff - Coach Hayes

Adrian Hayes is Head Men's basketball coach of the Colorado Northwestern Community College Spartans. In his first year as Head Coach, Hayes was able to set building blocks for things to come. Coach Hayes made history in the 2009-2010 seasons as the Men's basketball team was able to taste their first Scenic West Athletic Conference (SWAC) victory in 5 years. Now, serving his second year as Head Men's Coach, Hayes seeks to continue to improve and take this program to new heights.

As a former Division I collegiate and professional basketball player, Coach Hayes has gained extensive knowledge of the game. He has worked at various basketball camps alongside some of the country's best coaches and had the opportunity to coach players of all ages and skill levels. Coach Hayes worked very closely with A.C. Green formerly of the NBA Champion Los Angeles Lakers while assisting him in coaching and conducting basketball drills for players during developmental camps. Prior to that, Coach Hayes has coached several successful AAU basketballs team in Texas. The 2010-11 Campaign promises to be filled with excitement.

Adrian Hayes is an Austin, Texas native where as a player he led his high school team to their best record in School history. Adrian Hayes came to the CNCC program in 2008 from Los Angeles, CA where he was certified by Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFFA) and worked as a Personal Trainer during the off-season. Coach Hayes was a starter for the Northern Arizona University Lumberjacks men's basketball team. He led the Big Sky conference in blocked shots in 2004 and was among the top shot-blockers in the nation. As a Lumberjack, Adrian Hayes still holds the Big Sky Tournament Championship single game blocks record with 6 blocks. After finishing at Northern Arizona, he received his Bachelor Science degree in Sociology in 2004. He pursued his professional career by playing in several summer pro leagues in the Los Angeles area. Adrian also participated in a training camp for the Austin Toro's of the National Basketball Development League (NBDL) team in 2004. Adrian played professionally in Ensenada, Mexico for the MEXICAN LIGA NACIONAL DE BASQUETBOL(LNBP).

Coach Hayes in his second year as Head Coach for the Spartans plans to have a much improved team. "I believe this is a strong recruiting class and if they are willing to learn and work hard then we have the ability to compete in every game." The 2009-2010 year was riddled with injury from the start to the finish losing as many as 5 players to injury throughout the season. "Injuries are a part of the game but I think staying healthy is a big part of having success" Dealing with all of those injuries forced some players to step into a leadership roles. That leadership and experience will be instrumental in the Spartans having a strong season.
