Head Women’s Basketball Coach

Coach Edwards begins his second year at helm of the Lady Spartans Basketball team.  Last year he guided Lady Spartans through a rebuilding year where the team went 3-28.  Although the record was not as he had hoped, there were some tremendous accomplishments throughout the season.   He guided the program to its first conference win in five seasons.  The team received one 2nd Team All-Region Selection and four SWAC All-Academic Selections.  The highlight of the season for Coach Edwards was watching five of his sophomores graduate with their associates and move to the next phase of the basketball careers.

Coach Edwards comes to Colorado Northwestern Community College after spending 10 seasons as an assistant for the men’s team at Park University.  Edwards helped coached the Pirates to 16 wins in the 2007-2008 season, advancing to the semifinals of the 2008 NAIA Independent Region Tournament in Orangeburg, S.C.  Coach Edwards also coached an All-American who was also named NAIA Player of the Week at Park for the second-straight year in 2007-2008, as Jon Meriweather earned three All-America distinctions as well as two national weekly honors during the season.

Head Coach

During 2006-2007 season Coach Edwards helped guide Pirates to a 26-6 mark, 2007 Independent Region Champions, and in the same year he helped take the Pirates to the NAIA Sweet 16 at Kansas City’s Municipal Auditorium.  The tournament trip was the third in school history for the Pirates and marked the second-longest run in the tournament for a Park University squad.

Coach Edwards pulled double duty for seven years coaching at Park Hill High School.   While at Park Hill he had an opportunity to coach all the lower levels and gain some valuable leadership and instructional experience.

Coach Edwards has worked several camps and clinics throughout his career.  He also directed and coached the Northland Kings AAU Youth Basketball Program.  His program sent several players to NCAA Div. II; NAIA I & II; and NJCAA programs.

Coach Edwards began his coaching career with the Pirates 1999, under current Athletics Director Claude English and remained on staff when Jason Kline took over the Park men’s basketball program in 2004.

Coach Edwards played 3 seasons at Park College, now known as Park University.   Played for Claude English and was a member of consecutive 19 win teams that fell one game short of making the NAIA national Tournament.   Coach holds a Masters in Education, a Bachelors Degrees in Human Services and Criminal Justice all of which he attained a Park University.

Coach Edwards is married Jamila Edwards and they have one beautiful daughter Brianna and one handsome son “AJ” Antowin Jr.
