The Federal Campus Sex Crimes Prevention Act requires colleges and universities to issue a statement advising the campus community where state law enforcement agency information concerning registered sex offender may be obtained. The act also requires registered sex offenders/predators to provide to appropriate state officials notice of each institution of higher education in that state at which the offender/predator is employed, carries on a vocation, or is a student.
Each person who is required to register pursuant to §16-22-103 of the Colorado Revised Statutes shall register with the local law enforcement agency in each jurisdiction in which the person resides. The Colorado sex offender registry includes only those persons who have been required by law to register and who are in compliance with the sex offender registration laws. Persons should not rely solely on the sex offender registry as a safeguard against perpetrators of sexual assault in their communities. The crime for which a person is convicted may not accurately reflect the level of risk.
Additionally, Colorado Northwestern Community College is further required to publish and distribute its policy regarding the College's sexual assault programs, which are aimed at prevention of sex offenses and the procedures employed once a sex offence has occurred. Additional information about registered sex offenders can be obtained by calling the Rangely Police Department at 675-8466 and/or visiting the Website www.sexoffender.com.
