- CNCC offers a wide range
of financial aid consisting of various Federal, State, and Institutional
programs. CNCC requires students to compete the Free Application for
Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and meet all other designated requirements to be
considered for all of the following need-based aid programs. Where the aid
program has the word “Colorado” in the title a student must be a resident of
Colorado. These funds are provided by the General Assembly of the State of
Colorado.
GRANTS (funds do not have to be repaid)
Federal Pell Grant
The Federal Pell Grant is the Federal Government's largest student paid program
and is the starting point for most students seeking financial assistance.
Pell awards range from $200 to $4,050 for the academic year. A student
must enroll in a minimum of 3 credit hours each term to receive a Federal PELL
Grant. Students may apply for a Federal Pell grant until June 30, 2004 for
the 2003-2004 award year. The grant can be awarded retroactively to students for
successfully completed courses throughout the year provided the student is still
enrolled. Eligibility is determined through the completion of the FAFSA. Student who have received a BS/BA degree are not eligible.
Federal
Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)
This grant ranges from $100 to $2,000 per academic
year and is available to students with exceptional financial need who are
eligible to receive a Federal Pell Grant. This need is demonstrated by an EFC of
300 or less. Students must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours to be
awarded this grant. The FSEOG may be renewed annually providing the recipient
continues to meet all eligibility requirements. Eligibility is determined
through the completion of the FAFSA.
Colorado Leveraging
Educational Assistance Partnership (CLEAP)
This grant is available to students with a substantial financial need. State
and federal funds are matched dollar for dollar in this grant, up to a maximum
of $1,000 per year. The average award at CNCC is $800. Eligibility is limited to
Colorado residents who are enrolled in six or more credit hours. Eligibility is determined through the completion
of the FAFSA.
Colorado Student Grant (CSG)
This grant is available to students who are Colorado residents, demonstrate
financial need, and are enrolled in six or more credit hours. To ensure that
state need-based dollars are directed to eligible Colorado resident students who
have the least ability to pay for their education, CCHE policy defines three
funding levels. Using Expected Family Contribution, the institution will
award need-based dollars to Level 1 applicants. Level 2 applicants will be
considered after meeting the need of Level 1 applicants. Reasonable
administrative practices, such as application deadlines, are recognized as
realistic and appropriate.
Level 1: Students with least ability to pay
Students with an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) between 0 and 150% of
that required for a Federal Pell Grant. The minimum undergraduate award for this
category of students is $1,500 or the maximum amount of unmet need, whichever is
less. The maximum award is $5,000.
Level 2:
Students with documented need and moderate ability to pay
Students with an EFC between 150% and 200% of that required for the
minimum Federal Pell Grant award. Maximum award for this category of students is
$2,500 or the maximum amount of unmet need, whichever is less.
Level 3: Students with
documented need and average ability to pay
All other students who demonstrate financial need, as calculated by the federal
methodology, may be awarded a maximum of $500.
Eligibility is determined through the completion of the FAFSA.
Colorado Governor’s
Opportunity Scholarship (GOS)
State funds are awarded to provide financial
support to low-income students by giving them an opportunity to attend
institutions of higher learning. These funds are designed to change enrollment
and graduation patterns and at the same time extend greater economic stability
to low-income students. Recipients must be Colorado residents, have a
financial need documented by a parental adjusted gross income of less than
$28,300, have an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) of "0" or have a Parental
contribution of "0" from the FAFSA need analysis. This program is limited to
first-time college students who are enrolling full-time. Recipients will have
work-study as a component of their award. They must also agree not to borrow
student loans while receiving GOS. The amount of the scholarship will vary
based on the cost of attendance ad the amount of other financial aid the student
receives.
