Aviation Flight Program

Colorado Northwestern offers top-notch flight training by experienced professionals for both our Aviation Degree Programs and Continuing Education Flight Training. Colorado Northwestern offers a unique set of Flight Training advantages and opportunities unmatched by any other flight training programs.  It is likely one of the most economical schools at which you can train. Because of its remote location, Colorado Northwestern has no waiting for tower clearances, less congestion in its practice areas, less distraction of “big city life” and a healthy rural environment with plenty of Outdoor Recreation opportunities.  This means that you will be able to maximize the value of your educational dollars and time.

ASSOCIATE DEGREE PROGRAMS (Flight):

Students may pursue aviation career flight training, while obtaining college credits leading toward Associate Degrees in either Applied Science Aviation Technology or General Studies Aviation Technology. Both of these degree programs provide flight training leading to pilot certification as Instrument Rated Commercial Pilots. These basic flight courses offered in our Degree curriculum are FAA approved (under FAR 141). It is possible to get these degrees without attending CNCC at the Rangely campus by using Strand Flight School in Grand Junction , Colorado . Additionally, students may obtain Tail Wheel Endorsements, Multi-Engine Rating, Certified Flight Instructor and Instrument Flight Instructor Ratings. Students pay normal tuition for college credits plus Flight Training Costs.

The Associate of Applied Science Aviation Technology Degree program is designed primarily for the student who wishes to go to work in aviation immediately following two years of education. Partial credit from these courses may be applied to a four-year college or university.

The Associate Degree in General Studies Aviation Technology will transfer to a four-year College. This degree is designed to obtain professional flight skills in the first two years, and then transfer to four-year colleges or universities. It includes a basic core of General Education in specific disciplines. Various transfer courses from this degree may be accepted in four-year baccalaureate programs. Specifically, this degree transfers entirely to Metropolitan State College in Denver , Colorado through matriculation agreement.

CONTINUING EDUCATION FLIGHT TRAINING COURSES:

Flight Training Courses are offered to individuals who wish to gain flight skills without obtaining college credit and according to their own schedule. The courses generally utilize self-paced computer based training for aeronautical knowledge coupled with individualized flight and ground training designed to meet requirements of the Federal Aviation Regulations. They lead to the issuance of FAA Pilot Certificates, Pilot Logbook Endorsements and Course Completion Certificates issued by Colorado Northwestern Community College. Students who enroll in these courses enroll for each course each semester and pay a nominal registration fee ($10.50) plus Flight Training Costs. These courses are offered at the Rangely campus and other locations as determined by need within the Colorado Northwestern Community College service area. Continuing Education Flight Training is for:

•  Individuals who wish to learn to fly.

•  Non-current Pilots who have been out of aviation and wish to get recurrent training.

•  Current Pilots who wish to get advanced training or maintain instrument flying proficiency in our simulators and aircraft.

•  Non-Pilots who fly with friends or spouses and wish to learn basic airman survival skills to enhance their safety and enjoyment of flight.
