Criminal Justice Program

Thank you for visiting our CNCC Web Site and for visiting our Criminal Justice Program site.  We hope that your search for a learning institution will end at Colorado Northwestern Community College.  One of the things we value most is the quality of our instruction.  Our staff consists of dedicated professional educators who will be giving you virtually personalized instruction on a daily basis.

The Criminal Justice Program provides the necessary skills and education you will need as you explore the various options for employment in enforcement related fields.  The multi-disciplinary approach of the program allows the student to specialize in one or more emphasis areas.  Students may choose to pursue the Associate of Applied Science Degree or the Associate of General Studies Degree.  Students who wish to transfer to a four year college or university to complete a baccalaureate degree will complete an Associate of General Studies.

Career Opportunities

The world of Criminal Justice offers many exciting and challenging careers.  Rewarding jobs are available at city, county, state and federal levels.  Examples of careers in criminal justice are, police officer, deputy sheriff, parole officer, corrections officer, national park service ranger and department of wildlife officer.

Internships with local criminal justice organizations are available to provide students with actual experience. Students may join Colorado Northwestern Community College’s Rho Beta Kappa chapter of the American Criminal Justice Association and participate in local, regional and national events.

You may choose one of two curriculum tracks: the Associate Degree in General Studies in Criminal Justice, which is our transfer degree for students wanting to continue with their education towards a four year degree immediately upon leaving Colorado Northwestern Community College. This degree program contains the recommended Colorado curriculum for transferring to a four-year institution. If you are planning to attend a school outside of Colorado, you are encouraged to check with other institutions before attending Colorado Northwestern Community College so we are ensured of matching all courses for you.

You may also choose an Associate of Applied Science in Criminal Justice in Law Enforcement, Seasonal Park Ranger, or Corrections. The Applied Science Degree allows the student to obtain the knowledge, skills, and opportunity to obtain the certification(s) needed for immediate employment after graduation in your chosen field. A small business administration emphasis can also be obtained to our third year students or someone with a criminal justice degree already.

Again, we would like to thank you for your interest in Colorado Northwestern Community College and look forward to assisting you in the development of an interesting, exciting and challenging career. We also encourage and invite you to visit our facilities at any time.
