Natural Resource Management

  • Welcome
  • Contacts

As our planet's natural resources face continuing pressure, conservation becomes ever more critical.  Wild spaces and natural areas are under increasing pressure from industrial and urban development, recreational activities, agricultural expansion, and energy exploration.  In order to meet these going demands, natural resources must be managed effectively and efficiently.

 The Associate of General Studies in Natural Resources Management degree is designed to prepare students for careers in this dynamic and rewarding occupation. Important foundational courses form the core of the program.  Essential proficiencies are developed in:

  1. Information technology, e.g. -- GIS science;
  2. Ecological research methods;
  3. Technical communications; and
  4. Statistical measures.

Many students often seek their baccalaureate degree at nearby universities, while others begin working for the many government agencies located in Colorado, such as the BLM or National Park Service

Conrad Stanley

I hold a Master of Science in Environmental Biology from Governor State University and a Bachelor of Arts in Biology Education from Olivet Nazarene University.  I have been privileged to serve in a number of capacities such as township cartographer and public speaker.  My article, GIS in problem -- based curriculum, appears in the Illinois Science Teachers Association Magazine where I hope it encourages classroom incorporation of GIS technology.  I have wide-ranging research interests from apiculture and entomology through botany and GIS science.  One of my goals is to encourage students to preserve natural areas through hands-on appreciation, documentation, and analyses.  Another is to provide GIS training and access to students, business, and the general public.

I am blessed to have my wife of 26 yrs joining me on this great adventure and am leaving behind 2 adult children, Etty and Beth Stanley. I have resided in IL for all my life until now.  I enjoy camping, climbing, boating, hiking, etc. My hobbies include making fine furniture and blacksmithing. I'm a member of the First Presbyterian church of Wilmington and bugler for VFW post #5422.
