On Feb. 10-15, the Colorado Northwestern softball team traveled to St. George, Utah to play against Region 18 teams College of Southern Idaho, North Idaho College, and Western Nevada Community College. The teams played each other four times and although the Lady Spartans did not win but one game, this performance is a huge improvement from previous years.

College of Southern Idaho, a top ten team in the nation, played the Lady Spartans hard and almost lost. With great plays by freshman right fielder Meagan Stephens and freshman left fielder Monique Meir in the outfield, the Golden Eagles were in trouble. In the fourth inning, a hit by M. Griffin, almost went out, but Stephens made a falling catch over the fence and held onto the ball the whole time. › Continue reading

Quelf and the super-ninja monkeys

Jasmine DeFreitas
Reporter

Gather up your dorm buddies and get ready for a fun filled game night with the new board game Quelf.

Gather up your dorm buddies and get ready for a fun filled game night with the new board game Quelf.

Don’t pick up this game unless you are willing to snort (on command) when you laugh, say “thingy“ when referring to dice, cards, or game pieces, or if you are afraid of mimes or miming anything. “Imaginations” Quelf is a hilarious game full of fun and plenty of laughter.

The lost art of having fun while playing a board game is discovered once again as you play one of eight characters: Lugnut, Mrs. Pickle Feather, Batbileg Chinzori, the Dude, Queen Spatula, The Platypus, the Biscuit Farmer and, of course, our friendly Super Ninja Monkey. The goal of the game is to reach the rocket after going on the multicolored road of purple, green, blue, yellow and red. › Continue reading

Kurt Warner’s got what it takes for the Hall of Fame

Jordan Clark
Reporter

It’s all over. After 12 long seasons and two attempts at retiring in previous years, on Jan. 29, 2010, the 38-year-old quarterback made his final decision to hang up his jersey.

When Kurt Warner was picked and drafted in 1994 to play in the National Football League, he was working at a small town grocery store stocking groceries in the back of a store in northern Iowa. › Continue reading

Wii Fit Workout is wonderful

Whitney Chumacero
Reporter

Who would have imagined that you could play Nintendo and work out at the same time? Not me, but now I have realized that the Wii Fit system makes it possible for me to stay fit as well as have fun for a pretty reasonable price of about $100.

Take it from me, not a very big fan of video games, I absolutely love this game. It is so entertaining, but best of all, I can feel it toning and stretching certain parts of my body. It’s like a two for one deal! And the game actually tracks your progress or lack thereof every time you use it. › Continue reading

Average and proud of it

 Zachary S. Hendershott
Reporter

I seem to have less success than others. Still, I have more success than some. But why does it seem that some people can study for ten minutes the day before a test and ace it whereas I have to study an hour a day for a week just pass the same test? Or why do some people get full-ride scholarships because they can run really fast, throw a ball really far, or are academically adept, and others have to take gym class pass/fail and still have to pay through the nose for college? › Continue reading

A record underbid for CNCC

Jasmine DeFreitas
Reporter

For three projects on the Craig campus with a budget of $25 million, an apparent low bid of around 14.8 million under by Adolfson and Peterson Construction was offered. The bid has Colorado Northwestern Community Colleges Project Manager Cheryl Slaymaker astounded and talking.

The Academic Building, Career and Technical Center, and the infrastructure (everything that needs to be put in place such as waterlines, foundation, etc.) were the three projects that came so low under budget. › Continue reading

Michelle’s mindset: “Here, Kitty Kitty…”

Wednesday 2/17/2010

After staying up until 2 a.m., 8 a.m. class is definitely a challenge. I may look like I’m in class, but really my brain thinks I’m still in bed unconscious. This evening was the first time I drove my car at night since changing my headlight bulb. I no longer have to cross my fingers hoping to not get pulled over, thanks to NAPA being one of the few auto parts stores in Rangely.

The musical decline

Angel Mataia
Reporter

Casually checking the Billboard top 100 list on Billboard.com this weekend I saw, to my great disappointment, that 22-year-old breakout artist Ke$ha is at spot number 1 of the musical charts for her hit single “Tik Tok.”

And what’s wrong with that, you might ask? Almost everything. Ke$ha, formally known as Kesha (sans the dollar sign) Rose Sebert, has made bank off her album, ”Animal”, debuting at Number1 in countries such as New Zealand and Norway and now in the good ol’ U-S of A. For the few unfamiliar with Ke$ha’s work, let me offer up a lyrical sampling from the song “ Tik Tok:” “Before I leave, brush my teeth with a bottle of Jack, cause when I leave for the night I ain’t comin’ back”…  That’s riveting stuff, right? It’s like Courtney Love and Dr. Seuss had a baby. › Continue reading

 Day 1: January 28
Packed all night, only got one hour of sleep, but so excited to get on the road.
8:00 am off to Calif. bright and early.
9:30am: *&$#@! – Hit by a semi truck just short of the summit at Douglas Pass- more to follow…

Bring it on! Bailey's VW Jetta, Brunhilda, takes on a semi with minimal damage....on to California!

Bring it on! Bailey's VW Jetta, Brunhilda, takes on a semi with minimal damage....on to California!

11am: So it turns out that Bailey’s VW Jetta, a.k.a. Brunhilda, is quite the beast of a car! After a brief panicked moment, the semi truck’s back tire clipped the side of our vehicle, with Brunhilda having only a minor dent to show for it. After a check up at Atlas Automotive in Grand Junction and a quick censor replacement, Brunhilda is back on the road. By 1pm, we are finally, officially, on our way to California.
