Jah’s Salon gives CNCC women ‘the look of a lady’
Jahnette Epperson is a freshman student athlete on the Colorado Northwestern Community College campus. Epperson is a part of the women’s basketball team and will be returning as a sophomore leader for next season.

Jahnette Epperson always saw herself helping women feel beautiful. Now she has a way to do it through her hobby.
Epperson is from Denver, Colo. and graduated from Martin Luther King, Jr. (Early College) in 2010. She has kept her love for cosmetology going during high school and while here at college.
“I have been doing hair since I was little, but I got more into it during my junior year of high school,” says Epperson. “I would do my friends’ hair and nails for Homecoming and Prom or just because they would ask. I didn’t start doing fake nails until I got to college.”
During her free time, she enjoys doing hair, nails, playing basketball, working out, and drawing. Although she is busy with school and basketball, she does some cosmetology work on the side, such as hair and nails out of her room in Nichols 103 because it’s something she enjoys doing.
Also, on road trips, Epperson did many of her teammates’ nails and hair. She started by doing their natural nails and having some fun with it by adding a little bit of taste with some designs.
After basketball season was over, she started doing the real manicures with acrylic nails similar to those at a real nail salon.
“I love doing both hair and nails because I love making people feel good and making them feel beautiful,” says Epperson. “I’m also doing makeup so that my peers and friends can have the complete look of a lady going on.”
She generally does haircuts, flat ironing, curls, and braids.
Some women love the feeling of having the look of a lady, especially those ladies who have boyfriends, fiancés, and husbands they like to please.
“’Jah’s Salon’ is a great place to go if you want to get your hair and nails done,” says CNCC sophomore Ariel Sanchez.
Although Epperson isn’t licensed, she gets a lot of support from her family and peers.
“My services are open to anyone, but they have to understand that I’m still learning, and it takes me about two hours just to do the nails and add design,” says Epperson. “Also, I am a person to where if it doesn’t look right to me, I’ll fix it to where it does look good, or if it doesn’t look good to you, I’ll fix it to your needs.”
Jahnette has made a difference here at CNCC to the females’ needs and wants. Even though there’s a nail salon in town, some people find it a little out of their budget.
With the time that the students have, they find Epperson a very reliable source to get their womanly pampering done. She plans on taking classes over the summer to do hair, nails, and makeup. If sports medicine doesn’t work out for her, she plans on opening up her own Salon, but even if she does get a job in the sports medicine field, she would still love to do hair and nails on the side.
“She does good work with the time she is given,” says Sanchez. “She doesn’t take too long to get the job done and does good work.”
Will the bystanders please stand up?
You think you saw something, but you aren’t sure. You could be wrong; maybe it was nothing. So you let it go and you walk away. The next day you hear the news. Someone desperately needed your help, but you didn’t realize it. It wasn’t your friend. But it was someone else’s loved one. And they needed you to step in and prevent a sexual assault. › Continue reading
