Gather up your dorm buddies and get ready for a fun filled game night with the new board game Quelf.

Don’t pick up this game unless you are willing to snort (on command) when you laugh, say “thingy“ when referring to dice, cards, or game pieces, or if you are afraid of mimes or miming anything. “Imaginations” Quelf is a hilarious game full of fun and plenty of laughter.

The lost art of having fun while playing a board game is discovered once again as you play one of eight characters: Lugnut, Mrs. Pickle Feather, Batbileg Chinzori, the Dude, Queen Spatula, The Platypus, the Biscuit Farmer and, of course, our friendly Super Ninja Monkey. The goal of the game is to reach the rocket after going on the multicolored road of purple, green, blue, yellow and red.

This is a game full of silly trivia, roolz, stuntz and showbiz. Each card has a penalty, which moves a player back a certain number of spaces if they cannot complete a task on a card. Penalties range from 1-3 and will move you all across the board. You progress by rolling a die and moving the amount of spaces you roll.

Every card has a Quelf effect. This could be a quote, or it could be if someone sneaks a peek at the card, they have to move back a certain amount of spaces.

Roolz are effected in three ways: there are the global roolz, which affect everyone (e.g., everyone has to add “izzle” to the end of every sentence when it is not their turn); talking roolz, where one player has to say a specific thing (example, when any opponent laughs, you must say, “I command you to be silent!”); and action rules, where one player must continually do something (example: act like a member of the opposite sex). These rules stay in play unless another roolz card is drawn or another card says to get rid of them.

Stuntz are things where you have to balance a shoe on your head, or turn yourself into a human pretzel by touching one player with your right foot, another with your left, putting one hand on another’s knee and holding another’s ankle while somehow putting your head on yet another person’s shoulder. These can become quite fun and hilarious, but at no point should you do one that could hurt you, as the game states itself.

Ever been in an invisible box with four rabid ferrets? Well, you might have to pretend to be. Showbiz cards may make you sing, announce the news of your mother’s underwear catching fire in the laundry, or even mime. Some of these are like charades and other players must guess.

And of course there are the quizzle cards. If you land on a green space, the player to your left must draw the card for you and answer the question. It could be a question including toe jam as an option or which of these items is not an animal, but watch out, you might be caught be a Quelf effect. Sometimes you can earn extra credit on these cards and after you pay the penalty go forward one space.

Last, but not least, is the Scatterbrainz category. This is the only category that everyone gets to play. The category could be “places you whisper often” or what legless animals you would not expect to be bungee corded to floats at a Thanksgiving Day parade. The first person who fails to come up with one will pay the penalty.

Winning is a challenge using the Scatterbrainz cards, where possible winners must give two answers rather than one. If they lose, they pay the penalty and move back the number of spaces specified.

Honestly, there is no end to the laughs that this game can bring. It is a game for all ages, but if you ever got bored with old board games, you won’t be with Quelf. Nothing will keep you laughing for hours like this, one and you can never be too sure what will happen next.

Rediscover a child’s love for board games. It can be a great getaway from the video games. There is something to be said for looking across a board at other players and laughing endlessly. This is a game that encourages socialization, silly laughter and just having fun.

Pick up this game for $24 at Walmart and get ready for a game night you will not soon forget.
