Spring means soaring hopes

By Kindal Cushman; Reporter

The snow is vanishing and the weather is getting warmer. Could spring be creeping up?

A couple of students at CNCC are excited that the snow is going away.

“Since the weather is warming up and the snow is melting, that means that we can start practicing baseball outside,” sophomore Tyler Matrisciano says.

Other students are looking forward to warmer weather for other reasons.

“The weather getting warm means that summer is getting closer,” freshman Patrick Phelan says. “So this means that my trip…to Australia for a whole month during the summer is almost here.”

The hope for spring is just around the corner, and then no one will have to deal with the weather being wintry for much longer. Of course, melting snow brings lots of mud into this area. The mud is all over and unavoidable if you plan to go anywhere off of the highway.

And once the weather warms up, will students be less motivated to do their schoolwork?

Phelan is staying focused so that he can get his work done and transfer to a college in Kansas.

One reason Matrisciano needs the cold and the snow for a few more weeks is to have time to go snowmobiling up above his hometown, Meeker. The snow is nice and deep up there.

So winter’s not all bad for students, especially those from around here.

“I can handle it being cold since I have lived in Rangely most of my life,” Phelan said. “I have gotten used to the cold during the winter.”

The cold outside makes other people not want to go outside, which means it’s hard for them to get out and exercise.

Phelan is ready to get back outside and start running on the track instead of trying to get motivated to run on the treadmill. Others just let the winter weight come.

“I had to pack on a few extra pounds to make it through the cold,” Matrisciano said.

The weather looks good for the rest of the week, in the ’40s, so most of us hope that the snow is gone soon so we can enjoy the great outdoors.
