Lady Spartan Classic

Friday night the Lady Spartans went up against Salish Kootenai, a team with great size down low. The lady Spartans came out with some nerves but then received high energy from the crowd and soon shook away their jitters.
Jasmine Ransom, who is a freshmen starter for the Lady Spartans states that, “When the crowd was into the game our momentum was high.” The team worked together and was able to pull out a great win.
Michelle Blanton is also a freshmen starter for the Lady Spartans, Michelle says “Friday was a good
day; everyone had energy so we had the mindset to win.” The final score of Friday’s game was 96 to 58.
Saturday’s game the lady Spartans came out slow Stone Child swept the lead in the first two minutes of the game. The lady Spartans fought back and started back into the game with their defense. The team was not as happy with their performance on Saturday.
Coach Edwards’s stated that the team didn’t come out with the same intensity as the night before.
The final score of Saturday’s game was 83-51. The lady Spartans are now 9-4 headed into conference play after break.
Returner Jaynelle Johnson comments, “We are much better than last year and we will shock people within our conference.” The lady Spartans first conference game will be on January 6th against Eastern Utah.
Coach Edwards’s comments, “Talent wise, we have just as much talent as anybody, we just don’t have that killer attitude as those of who are one of the top teams within the conference.” Coach Edwards wants his team to have more confidence and leadership out on the floor.
He says this team is learning how to win. Coach Edwards’s was very pleased with the results of our Spartan Classic we came out with wins and by talking with the other coaches the Spartan Classic will hopefully become a tradition and be continued in the following years.
