Michael Dick

Michael Dick came to work at CNCC in the fall of 2011. He is one of the two instructors in the Equine Program and he teaches many of the classes that the second year students take.

Michael was born in Lancaster, KY. He played basketball while he was growing up and all through high school. After high school, he attended Murray State in Kentucky and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Equine Science.

When Michael was growing up, his dream was to either be a professional bull rider or a professional basketball player. However, after becoming the assistant coach for Murray State’s Ranch Horse Team, he discovered a new passion. He realized how much he enjoyed teaching about horses and horsemanship.

When Michael found out about the job opportunity here at CNCC, he left his job at a cow/calf operation and came to Rangely, Colorado to teach. He wanted the opportunity to pass on his knowledge and abilities to others.

When asked what he thought about CNCC and the Equine Program so far, he had only good things to say. He said that he loves it up here and he really likes the direction that the program is going. He also said that he enjoys working with the students in the program and he thinks the program has a lot of potential.

Sophomore Erin Tilka said, “He is a great new addition to the equine program. He brings a new perspective on horsemanship and the equine industry.”

One of Michael’s favorite experiences so far at CNCC was teaching the training class last semester. In this class, the sophomores in the Equine Program each worked with a young horse that had to be trained how to be ridden and worked with.

When Michael was talking about the accomplishments made during this class, he said, “The things they were able to overcome, to better themselves and their horses made me realize why I do what I do.”
