Financial aid
By Trenton Phillips, Reporter
During this school year people have been sighing up for financial aid without the full knowledge of their transactions. Students are pulling out loans with just the thought to spend it. Not thinking of what they have to pay back, they just take it and run. Fast cash usually has a affect on you In the long run. Loans can put you in a financial hole that you’ll have to dig yourself out of. They’re not aware of Financial Literacy
Financial Literacy is the ability to know finances. Merry Byers, the Financial Advisor, says “What you do in college, regarding your finances, can affect you later in life.” This honest money will only pull threw if you get a job and are able to pay it back. So the next time you apply for a loan, think about if you can afford it first. Your future also can be in jeopardy with you not being able to support yourself and/or family. Merry Byers also states that “this default can keep you from getting a car, house, and even get a job.”
So the next time you apply for a loan, be more aware. Know how you’re standing before you just take the aid. This money is to help get by now, but don’t take it willingly take it wisely. Not saying don’t do it but some of us might not need anymore. It’s just another loan that you’ll have to pay back but Colorado Northwestern Community College just wants you to be aware of the after effect. If you are associated with higher one, then I know that that’s a source that you could rely on for more information about Financial Literacy (www.higherone.com).
Colorado Northwestern just wants you to have a better education and be prepared for what’s up next. Never know what can come around the corner and hit you in the face. That’s why Merry Byers took the time to talk to me about this rising problem here at the school. Also just a reminder if you had any questions regarding your Financial Literacy to go see Merry Byers our Financial Adviser. Jay McLaughlin also states “it’s important these days to stay on top of things because before you know it, you’re going to be in a hole for some years paying debts off’. As adults we need to recognize problems and situations before they occur. Especially when it can affect the way you live in the future.
