Holocaust Awareness Week 2012: The Movie Series April 16-20

Special to the Spartan Times – Jessica Kruger

April has been named Genocide Prevention Month in large part due to the timing of The Holocaust and the genocides in Cambodia, Bosnia, Rwanda, and Darfur.  They all share a major, tragic anniversary this month.

When one envisions genocide, the well-known example of the Holocaust readily appears.  We must remember that the world has also recently seen genocide in Armenia, Cambodia, Liberia, Rwanda, Bosnia, and many other countries.  Arguably, genocidal policies are still being carried out today; in Sudan, for instance.  A handful of CNCC students and faculty have organized a week-long event in an attempt to raise awareness concerning genocide in hopes that we will come together to honor the past and act for change.
