Tim Tebow: Dreams do come true

By Morgan Roy, Reporter

At 6 years old wearing number 7 for the Lakeshore pee wee football league in Jacksonville Florida, a young Tim Tebow started out his journey to follow his dream to be a starting quarterback in the NFL. That dream so long ago came to life, for a vibrant and passionate young man who has touched so many at 24 years of age. It was Gator Day but who were the Dolphins kidding it was Tebow’s day back in his home state as he lead the Broncos onto the field and into battle on Sunday. › Continue reading

Look good, play good?

Maryland’s new football jerseys are the talk of collegiate football apparel this season. The uniforms consist of 32 different uniform options and two different helmets.

The first helmet option is black and white checker board on solid black. The second helmet represents their mascot; Testudo the turtle. The helmet is a grey turtle shell looking helmet with a yellow and black checker board stripe down the middle.

“The new jerseys are said to attract younger players,” according to Maryland’s head coach Randy Edsall. The reason for the flashy new upgrade is to publicize the school.

The New York Times online edition quotes, “they were the top ESPN poll holder with over 58,000 votes.” The jerseys are influencing the younger generation to want to be a part of the new trend in football; not only the athletes but the fans as well.

With that said, Maryland’s new football jerseys are great publicity for the school; mission accomplished for head coach Randy Edsall.

Taken from ESPN sports center, Maryland’s deal with Under Armour inspired Nike to create a whole line of so called “Flashy” jerseys for professional teams.

I think it would be for everyone’s best interest if flashy uniforms stayed at the college level. Controversy is being started about the new jerseys being a thing of the future.  Some professional players would like the jerseys to stay traditional and others want the new jerseys.  Either way, Maryland got what they wanted, publicity and the win in Saturday’s game against Utah.

Fast forward to 2011. Gone is Plummer, gone is head coach Mike Shanahan. The Broncos are a mess. They have traded away their franchise quarterback Jay Cutler to the Chicago Bears (Who lost to Green Bay in the NFC Championship game), traded standout wide receiver Brandon Marshall to the Miami Dolphins, and fired head coach Josh McDaniels. › Continue reading

2-0 NFL teams shouldn’t count their chickens yet

By Johnathan Thompson

Reporter

The National Football League season is a mere two weeks old and already we have seen some surprises. Along with the surprises, however, we have also seen the expected.
Besides their loyal fan bases, there are four teams at 2-0 that many did not expect to be there: Kansas City, Tampa Bay, Miami, and Chicago. But given that the NFL season is only two weeks old, we should be wary to tag these teams as contenders. › Continue reading

It’s all over. After 12 long seasons and two attempts at retiring in previous years, on Jan. 29, 2010, the 38-year-old quarterback made his final decision to hang up his jersey.

When Kurt Warner was picked and drafted in 1994 to play in the National Football League, he was working at a small town grocery store stocking groceries in the back of a store in northern Iowa. › Continue reading
