It’s a Zombie Kind of World

The final battle of the Humans Vs. Zombies event took place on the Rangely campus last Friday, Dec. 3. Although the humans were successful in the final mission, there were no female survivors. The zombies triumphed. The game, which spanned four days last week and involved several different activities or missions, is basically “a giant game of tag with Nerf guns,”said organizer and network support analyst Ted Shonts. Around 50 students, faculty and staff played the game. Go online to www.spartantimes.org for more photos of the HVZ scavenger hunt. Photo by Ted Shonts

Yampa 2010: A memorable end to a school year

On April 15, CNCC’s Outdoor Recreation Program (ORP) began a four-day journey on the Yampa River. This group of 23 included students, faculty, and river guides. Within this group were a range of people who loved the outdoors, those who knew the Yampa River well, and those who had never been camping. So while this was an annual trip for some, it was an entirely new experience for others.
The group began the trip by meeting in the Weiss parking lot as the sun was coming up at 6 a.m., and everyone hit the road closer to 8 a.m. and drove to the put in at Deer Lodge Park in Dinosaur National Monument.
At this point, most people were quiet or conversing only with their clan.

Students involved in Colorado Northwestern Community College’s Horsemanship/Horse Management Program and Horsemanship Club held their Gymkhana and the Ag Olympics on Oct. 17. It brought students and community members together for what many felt was a fun event.
“I believe the event went well,” Horsemanship Instructor and Program Director Brandon Velie said. “The students worked very hard to get everything set up, and I believe everyone who attended had a great time.”
A gymkhana is defined as “competitive games on horseback,” according to the “Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary.” › Continue reading
