Last semester, planning began in four areas for the next academic year at Colorado Northwestern Community College. These changes came in the form of Vision 2010, also known as Project Wombat. The creation of Learning communities, revamped Natural Resource and ORP programs, as well as new technology are all aspects of the project.

The Natural Resource Committee and the Learning Community Committee have worked hard to come up with new ideas for the fall.

Since last semester, the Natural Resource Advisory Council has four programs set up and ready to go for students looking to become park rangers, outdoor guides, forestry technicians and more. › Continue reading

Second Life is an online virtual reality site that SEIR may have the opportunity to work with, as well as other programs like it,giving students a chance to connect with one another in newer and more advanced ways.

With all of the forthcoming changes stemming from Vision 2010 at Colorado Northwestern Community College, it is important that all parts of CNCC are connected, from the faculty and students to different programs. That is what the SEIR—the Student Experience, Involvement and Resources committee–is focusing on.

SEIR’s mission is to connect students, staff and faculty to resources that will improve the student experience. The committee hopes that this focus will help with student retention because everything in the student experience will be more interconnected. The idea is to encourage students to be more involved with each other as peers, with their instructors, and with other aspects that could help students better succeed. › Continue reading

The Outdoor Recreation Program is one aspect of the college that is being changed through Vision 2010 in order to improve the student experience at Colorado Northwestern. Vision 2010 is a revisioning of different aspects of CNCC, from programs to technology.

A big aspect of all of Vision 2010 is incorporating more of the environment into the student experience, and Vision organizers hope that ORP trips will help make that happen.

“Students might come here for the outdoor opportunities the college has; they need to have the best educational experience we can provide,” CNCC Vice President of Instruction David Smith stated.

As a result, the ORP committee for Vision 2010 is trying to bring more students into the ORP programs. › Continue reading

“In education circles, the term learning community has become commonplace,” the Southwest Educational Development Laboratory (SEDL) website said. “It is being used to mean any number of things, such as extending classroom practice into the community; bringing community personnel into the school to enhance the curriculum and learning tasks for students; or engaging students, teachers and administrators simultaneously in learning–to suggest just a few.”

About Vision 2010

“We need to be able to feature our (CNCC’s) best assets, and those are our natural environment and our people,” said Colorado Northwestern Community College’s Vice President of Instruction David Smith. This idea started the “multiple conversations” that have evolved into Vision 2010 (also known as Project Wombat). Vision 2010 is a revamp of some programs and it also incorporates new ideas and changes that are meant to help give students a better overall experience at CNCC and offer something bigger universities may not have. › Continue reading
