Dental Hygiene Prerequisites

Applicants must earn a minimum GPA of 2.8 and grades of "C" or better on all prerequisite courses and general education courses that apply to the Dental Hygiene Associate of Applied Science degree (it's not a requirement that prerequisite and general education courses be taken at CNCC). The science grades are weighted more heavily during the application process. For those of you looking to transfer you can visit our Transfer Matrix and Course Description pages.

The science courses must be completed within seven years of admission to the Dental Hygiene Program.

The following courses are Prerequisites for the Dental Hygiene Program:

  • BIO 2101 & 2102 - Human Anatomy and Physiology I,II
  • BIO 2104 - Microbiology
  • CHE 1012 or CHE 1009 - General Organic, & Biochemistry
  • ENG 1021 - English Composition I
  • PSY1001 - General Psychology*
  • SOC 1001 - Introduction to Sociology*
  • HWE 1050 - Human Nutrition*
  • COM 1015 - Public Speaking*

*It is recommended that these courses are completed prior to acceptance into the program.  However, you may take PSY 1001, SOC 1001, HWE 1000, and COM 1015 while in the Dental Hygiene program.  Preference will be given to those who have all the above courses completed.
