At CNCC, we are concerned about every student’s success. One of the ways that has been identified to assist our students is to use an Early Alert program. This is a partnership between instructors, advisors, coaches, and administration with the goal of opening lines of communication with students.  

Grade Checks

Grade Checks occur every three weeks of the Fall and Spring Semesters (Weeks 3, 6, 9 and 12). During that process, instructors update their grades at the scheduled dates in Desire2Learn. A report is pulled that coordinates between Banner information and D2L the following Monday. The grades are sent to the Gateway Center Coordinators, Advising staff, and partial reports are sent to the coaches and advisors with the proper student information. All students receive an email listing all of their classes and current grades in each along with the Gateway Center schedule and additional information on how to be successful in higher education.

Student Interventions

Students failing two or more classes receive an additional invitation to meet with advising and intervention staff. They receive an email, a phone call or a letter requesting a meeting. Athletes failing two or more classes will recieve additional communication from their coaches. Additional study hours, refraining from traveling with the team, or other tactics to improve their academic performance may be utilized at the coaches' discretion.

When to Use

Instructors use the alert system throughout the semester when a student has behavior or missing skill issues such as:

Instructors do not need to issue an alert during grade checks if it is about grades. Referrals should not duplicate instructors’ work, but rather state an issue that is either not grade related or is grade related in between grade checks.

Intervention Process

The intervention team will automatically be emailed a copy of the referral form information and, depending on the situation, advising or Gateway Center staff will contact the student. Coaches, advisors, tutors, professional counseling, etc. may be included in planning for success with the student.

To Issue an Alert

Log in to Navigate for Staff/Faculty at https://cncc.campus.eab.com/home with your Single Sign On (SSO aka Crossroads) credentials and then click on Issue an Alert on the right sidebar.  You can then pull up the student by name or Student ID, list reasons for the request, the relevant class, and your comments.  By issuing an alert, you will be alerting our Intervention Specialists who will connect the student of concern with the appropriate resources.

Report an Incident or Concern

When to Use

Use these forms when a student demonstrates an act of violence or extreme disrespect in the classroom or outside of class on school property.  The resulting intervention depends on the situation. This is added to student’s file and assists the safety officer with seeing a pattern of problematic behavior.

Report an Incident/Concern

Incident/Concerns are behaviors that include, but are not limited to, alcohol, disorderly conduct, drugs, hazing, harassment, physical violence, or other violations of the code of conduct, regulations, or rules. To submit an Incident/Concern please use the Incident Reporting Form 

 

Report an Academic Integrity Violation

Academic violations are behaviors that include, but are not limited to, cheating, plagiarism or falsifying official records related to the College. General classroom misbehavior is considered a non-academic violation. To report academic misconduct, please use the Academic Integrity Reporting Form

Report a Grievance/Complaint

Grievance/Complaints are issues that include, but are not limited to, food services, faculty/staff complaint, finance services or facilities upkeep that is related to the College. To submit a grievance/complaint please use the Complaint Reporting Form.

Report Concerning, Worrisome, or Threatening Behaviors

Faculty, staff, students, and guests are encouraged to report behavior that they perceive as concerning, worrisome, or threatening. Concerning behavior includes, but are not limited to, food insecurities, self-harm, homelessness, depression, or change of demeanor. Request for Accommodations

Accommodations are services that include, but are not limited to, audio books, extended time on test, use of calculator on test, or preferred seating.
