Career and Technical Program Professional Licensure Disclosure

In compliance with the U.S. Department of Education and the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement (NC-SARA), Colorado Northwestern Community College (CNCC) provides information pertaining to professional licensure and certification in correlation with programs offered at CNCC that may lead to state licensure.

Students are advised to review the following program licensure information BEFORE beginning a program at CNCC that leads to professional licensure with the intent to be licensed outside of the state of Colorado:

Review the licensing information provided for the applicable program(s) below.
- While CNCC endeavors to ensure this information is up to date, changes in licensure requirements of any state can change at any time.
Contact the appropriate licensing agency in the U.S. states and territories where licensure is intended.
- This will enable you to obtain the most up-to-date information about licensure requirements and confirm CNCC’s program meets those requirements especially while progressing through any of these programs.

Not all of CNCC’s programs are formally approved for professional licensure. However, while a program may not be formally approved in states outside of Colorado, it may still meet all or a portion of the “educational” requirements for licensure in other states and territories. Therefore, it may be necessary for you to contact the licensing agency directly to find out if a CNCC program will meet educational requirements in states other than Colorado.

Aviation Maintenance Technology (AMT)

The AMT program at CNCC is an accredited Part 147 program by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). As such, students who successfully take their FAA licensure exams, meet federal licensure requirements for all 50 states. Students are eligible to take their airframe and powerplant exams at different times, and can hold those independently of one another.

Aviation Technology (AVT)

The AVT program at CNCC is an accredited Part 141 program by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). As such, students who successfully take their FAA licensure exams, meet federal licensure requirements for all 50 states.

National Parks Service – Seasonal Law Enforcement Program (NPS)

The NPS program provides curriculum directly from the NPS Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC), and is approved to be a training center for seasonal law enforcement officers with NPS. Students who successfully compete the NPS FLETC requirements through CNCC’s NPS program will receive their Type-II certificate from FLETC and is eligible for seasonal law enforcement employment at any National Park in the nation. Many state parks also recognize this certificate for employment.

Nursing

Colorado participates in the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) meaning, nurses can practice in other NLC states. The NUR program trains nursing students to obtain a Colorado State Nursing License. Once a graduate receives the Colorado State license they may then practice in the following states: AL, AR, AZ, CO, DE, FL, GA, ID, IN, IA, KS, KY, LA, ME, MD, MS, MO, MT, NE, NH, NJ, NM, NC, ND, OH, OK, PA, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, VT, VA, WA, WV, WY, WI.

Emergency Medical Services (EMS)

Completion of the EMS associate of applied science, emergency medical technology certificate, advanced emergency medical technology certificate, and EMS professional prepares students to take the National Emergency Medical Service Registry test.

Colorado is part of the EMS Personnel Licensure Interstate CompAct (REPLICA) multi-state compact agreement. This allows a qualified EMS professional licensed in their home state (in this case, Colorado) to be extended a privilege to practice in other compact states. In addition to Colorado, the other states include: AL, GA, ID, IN, IA, KS, LA, MS, MO, NE,ND, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, VA, WV, WY.

Cosmetology

Completion of the associate of applied studies in Cosmetology, and Cosmetology certificate prepares students to take the State of Colorado licensure boards/exams and has determined that the program meets the requirements for cosmetology licensing in the following states: AL, AR, CO, CT, DE, FL, GA, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, ME, MD, MA, MS, MO, NH, NJ, NY, NC, OH, OK, PA, RI, SC, TN, TX, VT, VA

The Cosmetology program has determined that the program does not meet the requirements for licensing in the following states: AK, AZ, CA, HI, ID, IA MN, MT, NE, NV, NM, OR, UT, WA, WV, WI, WY.

Completion of the Barbering certificate prepares students to take the State of Colorado licensure boards/exams and has determined that the program meets the requirements for cosmetology licensing in the following states: AR, CA, CO, CT, DE, FL, GA, HI, IL, IN, KS, LA, ME, MD, MS, MO, MT, NV, NH, NJ, NM, ND, OR, PA, RI, SC, TN, TX, UT, VT, VA, WA, WY

The Barbering program has determined that the program does not meet the requirements for licensing in the following states: AK, AZ, ID, KY, MI, NC, OH, WV, WI

Many states allow individuals who hold cosmetology licenses from other states to apply for licensure by reciprocity. Each state has different requirements for licensure by reciprocity, and students are encouraged to visit the Department of Regulator Affairs (DORA) for the state they want to practice in to get further specifics.

Dental Hygiene

Students graduating from CNCC are eligible to take the National Board Dental Hygiene Exam (NBDHE) the last semester of the program. This is a written exam that is accepted in all 50 states.

To obtain licensure, a clinical exam is also required. The United States is divided into Regions. Based on which state a student plans to practice upon completion, they should take the corresponding clinical exam. Below are the different clinical exam board exam options:

Upon graduation and successful completion of both the NBDHE and corresponding clinical exam, students are eligible for licensure in all fifty (50) states.

Nurse Aide

The State of Colorado requires 80 hours of nurse aid instruction to qualify for licensure testing. CNCC has determined that the nurse aid program meets the following states requirements: CO, IA, KY, LA, MN, NE, NV, NH, NM, ND, OH.

The nurse aid program has determined that the program does not meet the requirements for licensing in the following states: AL, AK, AZ, AR, CA, CT, DE, FL, GA, HI, ID, IL, IN, KS, ME, MD, MI, MS, MO, MT, NJ, NY, NC, OK, PA, RI, SC, VT, WA, WV, WI, WY

Outdoor Emergency, Medical, and Wildland Firefighting

CNCC offers certification in Fundamentals of Search and Rescue (FUNSAR) which follows nationally recognized content to provide students the SARTECH-II certificate upon successful completion of the practical and written exams. This industry credential is needed to participate in formal search and rescue operations across the United States.

The wildland firefighting courses provide students with training in the federally recognized wildland firefighting certifications – S-190, and S-130. These credentials are required prior to being hired and assisting with wildfires across the nation.

Mine Training

Mine training courses are offered to assist the local industry with training in Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) for inexperienced surface miners, inexperienced underground miners, and also provide an annual refresher courses. Individuals who complete this requirement will receive their Form 5000-23 certificate of training that may be required by employers.

CONSUMER INFORMATION
